Ibis has made a concerted effort over the years to participate in
public events that seek to bring the spirit of the literature we publish
to the widest variety of audiences. It has also been extremely important
to us to work together with a range of institutions and organizations
whose vision in some way overlaps with our own. Among the events in
which our writers, translators, and editors have taken part:
• An evening of Arabic poetry, New York City, cosponsored
by Teachers &
Writers Collaborative, in the wake of September 11;
•
A tour: Palestinian poet Taha Muhammad Ali, Hebrew poet Aharon
Shabtai,
and their translator Peter Cole read to students, faculty, and community
members at various American universities;
• Interviews with two Ibis poets, Samih al-Qasim and Taha
Muhammad Ali, and Ibis editors Peter Cole and Adina Hoffman on PBS’s
“NewsHour with Jim Lehrer”
